Inside looking every which way!!!!

The Auckland Art Gallery won the 2013 World Building of the Year award at the world Architecture festival. I read these facts on the Virgin in flight magazine as I flew across to New Zealand. The photos accompanying the article show a magnificent modern building that still retained the old historic, heritage building. For me it was a must see…

The entrance is flanked by huge Kauri posts

    • I love to try and capture photos of birds, not easy, but I keep trying. The bottom photo is actually a video of the 2 lorikeets. The photos are on my Flicka site you can see more by clicking on the bottom where it says “more photos”

  8. nice shots – and thanks for the current event news – glad they won an award – looks like they deserve it. (part of the wood awning almost felt like mid century style to me ….hmmm) and hope they contain that virus in the forest areas! Beautiful for the inside theme. 🙂 ~y.

    • Thanks Y, I thought it almost looked medieval. It was so light and airy inside, I loved it

      • oh yes – I agree – inside it does – – I think I was referring only to that last photo – with the up shot view of the wooden awning – the color of the wood and the pattern felt mid-cent. But “inside” is more of what you said. 🙂 and thanks for the reply.

    • Good morning Dianne. The Kauri in the forest is also magnificent, but I heard that there is a virus affecting it and some parts of the National Parks up north are closed to trampers to try and contain the problem. It would be so sad to lose those giants of the NZ forest

      • That would be an absolute disaster. I really hope they can contain it.

        • My NZ friends are trampers and they are devastated to think the tramping tracks are endangering the forest giants.

          • You’ve been up this way (Cairns). You’ve probably seen the boardwalk for trampers to protect the fauna. I think it’s working…

            • I love the Cairns gardens, the Botanic garden is one of the best. Yes many National Parks now have board walks to protect fragile root systems I think it is a good idea.
