With the sale of Matilda our nomadic camping lifestyle has come to an end, at least for the time being. So it was time to downsize even further, no point the camping gear being stored away taking up valuable space. Time for a garage sale.
I had put an ad in Gumtree on the internet and also in the local paper. I wonder if any one will see them? It was to be from 7-30 to 12-30.
At 6-30 Saturday morning the first vehicle pulled up. We were still having breakfast so I went out and said we will not be ready till 7am. “oh we will wait” they said. By the time I lifted the garage door there were 3 lots of people waiting to swoop in on any bargains…
Having a garage sale is lots of fun. We had a garage sale in September 2009 when we had decided to start travelling and downsize from a 3 bedroom house to a one room Granny flat. (click here to take a look into my archives and see the start of our dream) We chat to the people and sell them “stuff” that we are amazed they will use. I put in my old Nikon SLR that I haven’t used for years. It was the first thing to sell. Maybe I should’ve put more than $25 on it !!! The cd’s and books were well rummaged through with most people finding at least one treasure to take away. I intended to take photos during the day of the sale but some how the morning just raced by and it was all over before I could stop to take a photo or two.

After the excitement was all over and we had a well-earned cup of tea. I wandered around the garden and I would like to show you these beautiful flowers that are out at the moment.

well I enjoyed this post = and while I do not do garage sales anymore (only did a couple – back in 2002- and while it was great for a big move – I prefer to bag the stuff and send it off.
anyhow, as I read your post, it sounded like you really blessed folks – and whoever got that camera sure was blessed – and so in a way – sometimes nicely priced garage sales are a way of “paying it forward” –
also, loved the photos of the flowers – beautiful!!! 🙂

We enjoy doing garage sales we meet some interesting people and feel that we are helping the economy in a small way by recycling our “stuff”

You sound as though you’ve made so very wise decisions over the past few years, and had lots of fun fulfilling your dreams. I hope that Matilda will be happy with her new owners, as she waltzes of into the sunset. Your house-sitting jaunts and planned family visits for this year sound very exciting. xx 🙂

I have to ask you PP, when you are away for so long don’t you miss your own home and garden? I love going away, but I also like coming back home to my things again. Though I wouldn’t mind a few months ‘downunder’ 🙂

It is a strange thing being a gypsy type person, I often wonder about it Jude. I am so wrapped up in and enjoying seeing new places and meeting new people that I don’t really miss home. But I do really enjoy the down time when we are at home for a short while. I guess the answer is that I call it home where ever and even for the short periods we stay at a place. “Home is where you lay your head”

I can understand that. Obviously Jack feels the same way. My OH is very much a home-bird and would happily never go anywhere again!

Hi Cathy big changes for 2014 we are house sitting most of the year so Matilda would be just sitting at home alone going rusty. We go to NZ to visit my family then onto WA for 2-3 month house sit and visiting friends then straight on to Canberra end of July to October. The year is going to fly by…
