Don’t you just love it when you have visitors. All of a sudden you see your home turf through their eyes.
So it is this week. We have my son and partner visiting from New Zealand for a week. Kerry has never been to Australia and with only a week it will be a whirl-wind tour.
Easter Sunday dawned fine but a storm was forecast for later. To make the most of the fine weather we took an orientation drive along the beach front.
The huge swells created by Cyclone Oswald just a few weeks ago scoured all the surface sand away and washed it out to sea leaving a rather dirty looking beach. The beach was originally level with the sand dunes, but this does not stop the children enjoying a dig in the sand and swim in the ocean between the red and yellow flags.
Surfer’s Paradise hi-rises loom out of the mist in the distance, so it is back in the car and drive on.
But first a stop at Broadbeach to look at the shops.
Surfers Paradise is the main tourist centre of the Gold Coast and the council have poured truck loads of sand back onto this beach and it does look more inviting and this is where the crowds come. The world street entertainers are also holding competitions here and there is action and music all around this area.
At mid-day the sky starts to cloud over and then the rain starts. Most people head for the shopping centres and the streets and mall become deserted. The street entertainers lose their audience and the shop owners rub their hands in glee…
The team at WordPress have asked us to show you a day in our lives. This is not a normal day for us but we love showing the Gold Coast to our visitors.
