Vintage Cars, 50’s Fashion and the art trail…

A weekend away immersed in the art trail and the incredible Phoenix Sculpture Garden made for a memorable 2 days. But that was not all.

Look what else we stumbled across…

A vintage car show. Blokes drooling over relics of the past, buffed to a high sheen and sparkling chrome. (The cars, not the blokes…)

Others a-flame with air-brushed beauty.

Then I spotted that icon of the flower children from the 1960’s, now the back packer’s darling for trundling around Australia. The VW in all it’s rusted glory…

Covered in stickers and the memorabilia from that era.

Of course the iconic Holden FJ with bench seats made for smooching had to be there too.

This young women stood out in the flamboyant style of the 50’s. But the mobile phone is a sign of these times…

She is in a hurry. I wonder where she is hurrying to, so I follow along.

And I am taken on a trip down memory lane to my teenage years.

To the background sound of rock n roll these locals strut their stuff all dolled up in the fashions from the 1950’s. Do you remember them?

It was so much fun.

This was one of the more unusual studios. An old train carriage, surrounded by a glowing garden, converted into an art studio.

So that is just a small taste of the weekend. It was varied, interesting and very inspiring.

The icing on the cake was the Airbnb accommodation we stayed in. A delightful, well-travelled couple invited us into their home surrounded by bush, warmed with a wood fire and sharing a glass of wine and good conversation. A comfortable bed lulled us to sleep and birds woke us next morning. And it only cost $50 with a light evening meal and breakfast. I LOVE Airbnb…

A perfect weekend away.

  4. The 50’s clothes are very fun – as are the cars and art studio – but the main reason I am leaving a comment (besides saying hello as well) – is because I was just reading that Airbnb is getting in trouble with some cities – like Paris! Guess they want things more regulated and say it is “illegal” to rent the way Airbnb does ?? I do not know – but I know that people seem to live it and sounds lie you and J do as well –
Anyhow – hope you at enjoying your break – no reply needed – take care – Xxoo 😎❤️❤️❤️❤️

    • G’day Y lovely to hear from you. What a pity to hear that the “powers that be” are trying to regulate Airbnb. Hope they leave it alone as it is SUCH a good concept. I am enjoying my “artistic” break. Not producing any masterpieces but trying lots of new techniques. Hope all is going well in your corner of the world.

      • yes P – things are nice – enjoying the simple things of summer – or at least trying to – we have a house guest who is making a painting and I just decided I want to jump in and paint too – so I am going to do a one day painting piece – not sure what yet…. but feeling the itch.
thanks for the reply – and sending artistic energy your way – 🙂

  11. What a great way to spend a weekend. Lots of V Dubs around here and in better shape than that one, though I did find a very unhappy Morris Minor last Sunday. I now fancy a weekend away myself… maybe after the tennis finishes 🙂

    • Sitting watching with your strawberries and cream? Our 2 young aussies are a bit controversial aren’t they…
You must have lots of places to go for a weekend in your part of the world.

      • I haven’t seen anyone in the crowd with strawberries and cream, I wonder if they still do that? You do see glasses of Pimms though. Not the same.

        • I guess you will be glued to the set and cheering Andy on. How amazing is Serena???

          • I never used to watch women’s tennis as I found it boring, but it is much better these days. The ladies final was very good, could have gone either way as both excellent players. Serena’s serve was hard to beat though on the day. She is a good role model to young women. Getting ready for the match now, bowls of strawberries at the ready 😀

  12. Great photos, Pauline. Loved those blast from the past fashions. I didn’t have the pink hair, but the polka dots definitely ring a bell. 🙂
