Thursday Doors : Mooball…

dunny door-6_4000x3000

Can I put this in Norm’s “Thursday Doors” challenge? Technically I think it is a gate. But I couldn’t resist taking its photo and I had to go through it.

I’m sure all Australians will know where I am going, but I wonder how many other people who visit this post from around the world will know where I am hurrying to.

Today we went for a country drive and I am in the quaint village of Mooball. With a population of approximately 300, they have embraced the idea of the cow in the name of their village and everything that doesn’t move has been decorated with the black and white splodges of the Friesian cow.

Even this old tractor has been given the treatment.

They also have a collection of motorbikes in a shed alongside the café. Jack was quite taken with this one…

But he had to leave it behind, it was too big to get on…

  1. this is really fun (mmmmooooloooo) and I like the gate or door – think it fits perfect –
also – did you know we have a chain fast food chicken place called chik-fil-A – and they give away free meals every spring – but only if you come in dressed like a cow. So we used to have a few t-shirts with these prints – and some accessories – just a fun event.

also- these photos reminded me of Vermont for some reason -hmmm

  4. What have I missed out on? I’ve driven past many times but not stopped, having had a regulatory dunny stop earlier.
That’s for taking us there. Much appreciated.

  5. Loved that, I still remember the old D..ny in our back yard. We used to have to walk a long way and it was so scary if you had to go during the night. Plus all the spider webs. Harvey in WA has a lot of cow images around their town just like this one.

  6. I love the painting of the cow on the wall. The whole moo theme gives the town character.

  7. Dunny Lane? I have no idea what manner of stuff lies within. But I can tell you this: In China, in Mandarin, there is no difference between a gate and a door. In America, it’s only the material it’s made of that makes a difference. I once saw a fence with a gate made made from a car door…there you have it.

    • You have never heard of the dunny??? Your education is lacking BF!!! It is an Aussie slang term what Americans call the bathroom or the John. Lots of other terms for it over here. Thanks for the stamp of approval about the lack of difference between a gate and a door…

  8. What a great place, Pauline – the people in this town aren’t moochers, that’s for sure 😀

  9. I went through Mooball back in 1998 – I don’t remember it being quite so colourful then, but I did make my son stop the car so I could take a photo of the name!
