For a change I chose the inland route to Sydney on our way from the Gold Coast to the farm, house sit. Mainly because I had not been this way before.
Armidale was to be our first stop over, almost a 600 kilometre journey from the Gold Coast.
Have you heard of Airbnb? (If not check it out here.) I have used it a lot and love it. Well when I contacted Clare for a 2 night Airbnb stay in Armidale, she emailed back to say she would be away on the days we wanted accommodation. BUT she noticed we did house sitting, would we like to do a deal, stay 3 nights, pay for one and feed her chooks and water pot plants? Of course I said yes…
It was in an ideal location. At the end of a quiet street, almost in the country, near the University and only a 5 minute drive to the CBD. If you look carefully you can see the few pot plants. It was rustic and basic but had comfy beds and every thing we needed.
I looked in the long grass under that big old apple tree.
And found a worm farm tucked away.
After feeding the 5 chooks and checking for eggs. It was time to explore Armidale…

I’ve only heard of air bnb on current affairs shows, and obviously they show it in the worst light possible. But through your experience it seems like a nice way to travel.

what great luck. I contracted for a housesit in Laos last year, but it fell through. I was a bit disappointed. But he had five big dogs I would have to transport to the beach to run twice a day, so I wasn’t too upset. I like dogs, just not transporting big wet ones.

well i read some of the other comments here too – and got a feel for the cooks from that – and mmm mmm mmm on the eggs- how fresh! We have a friend who brings us eggs- still fresh but nothing as close to your freshly laid! but no store eggs even come close to the farm fresh – xoxo

I was very surprised that this farm sit they didn’t have any chooks. The store eggs cannot compete in taste to fresh laid.

Lovely, what a good looking and interesting bunch of chooks. My neighbor and I are going to do airbnb in our town, where there aren’t any as close to town as we are.

What beautiful chooks! I used Airbnb in Sydney, which was OK, but not when we were accused of stealing a bottle of gin ‘apparently’ left in the fridge.

A bit unfortunate about the gin, it would put you off a bit. We’ve used Airbnb in Sydney a couple of times now. Didn’t even find a bottle of wine in their fridge though!!!

Their fridge was full of stuff, but I don’t recall a bottle of gin. We didn’t even have space to put our clothes. When I complained the owner said they had made room in a wardrobe, not much use for people who are travelling as they usually don’t have those sort of ‘hang me up’ clothes with them. The only really good thing was the fact it was very close to my family!

Lovely chooks, is the white one a silkie? I’ve used air bnb twice now, in Barcelona and Tavira and it will be my first port of call in future.

I think it is a Silkie with a powder puff head… I always check out Airbnb when I’m looking for accommodation, never been disappointed yet
