Welcome to South-East Queensland.
For days the sun has shone and the heat rose to a steamy, humid, almost unbearable 34C.
It didn’t cool down much during the night. The hottest night in 10 years the media told us. They also said 83% of Brisbane households have an air conditioner, and they estimated nearly all of them were turned on.
We are in the 17% that do not have an air conditioner. It was a difficult night….
But the sunflowers love this weather.
Then today the storm came. Torrential rain, thunder and lightning
It poured down in sheets and bounced and swirled along the driveway.
The fish ponds over flowed.
The paved area round the side of the house became a mini lake.
And the rain forest area lived up to its name.
I will now be able to roll the hose up and put it away for a few days.

Thanks Sue, but the rain kept falling,heavily, for a week and the poor sunflowers looked quite bedraggled at the end of the week. But they are popping back after 2 days of really hot weather.

I love your garden more each time I see your pics. I’m housesitting at the moment surrounded by palms, bougainvillea, heliconia, happy plants, frangipanis.. There’s a flame tree too although it’s not in bloom right now. Love the feeling of waking up in the jungle surrounded by green 🙂 Is it the same for you?

In Australia it can often go to extremes and cause flooding. Fortunately we are not in a flood zone, but that storm caused some flash floods further north.

The library runs all sorts of programmes, I am a real library junkie…
The sunflowers are not as tall as I was expecting but have a lovely multi stalked flowering head.

Such great shots of the rain in the garden – a beautiful rain forest all right. Even though we are going through a frigid period here right now it seems preferable to extreme humidity – just what you’re used to I guess.

Such a gorgeous rainforest garden PP – worth putting up with the heat I’d say (though like you I would be hiding in the library!), I would certainly wilt in the humidity.

The humidity was 90% even in the night. I just lay in a pool of sweat in that humid heat. But the storm has now cleared the air, had a lovely sleep last night. We are having very tropical weather this year, and we are supposed to be a sub-tropical zone.

Tasmania would be good for the summer months but a bit cold in the winter, maybe 6 months in each…

We had 37 in Brisbane, icky! But i have 2 air conditioners – 1 in the lounge and 1 in the bedroom 😀

Thanks DJ Poor Brisbane suffered. We usually get the sea breezes and have all the windows and doors open, but that night there was no breeze and the humidity was 90%.

During the hot, humid days I sneak off to the library or shopping centres to sit in their air con.

We saw “Into the Woods”. I was a little disappointed. Not quite what I expected. Although the acting was fantastic.

I love rain shots – and yours are so clear – can really feel the first and that puddled one – whew that was a lot of rain. I like the cool chair in the back and nice bird bath – actually cindy’s comment summed up how I felt after enjoying your pics – “gorgeous garden”

It certainly poured down Yvette, when I checked the rain gauge it was full at 130mm and over flowing, so don’t know how much we had during the night.

It was hot last year too Jane, but this year we have the rain so higher humidity which makes it seem much hotter.

The Sunflowers are appropriate for this post and you have shown them off nicely.
I love this heat the ocean is 25c degrees..
Sleeping with the door open is almost as good as sleeping under the stars
and a lot of cloths are not necessary.

I can’t imagine not having an air condtioner in that sort of heat. How do you sleep? Your garden looks really happy with all that rain, and your sunflower pics are splendid. 🙂

I sleep with difficulty on the worst nights but we have a fan at the end of the bed that helps a bit…
