Finally we are on the way…

What a week of drama and ups and downs it has been.

Sorted the tax man, fixed the teeth by throwing money at the dentist. Then a plumbing problem reared its ugly head. “They” say things come in threes. The toilet stopped flushing. We were unlucky to strike a BAD plumber. 3 visits later and still not fixed he declared we would need a whole new system. “Don’t get that brand, Villeroy and Bosch, they are hard to get parts and very expensive” he told us, shrugged his shoulders and said “and I will not be back!”

I found and rang the suppliers to get information straight from the source.

“Oh no problem for parts, there is a place on the Goldcoast has the part you need.” They were horrified that a plumber should recommend replacing their top of the range model. “Why would you throw out a Rolls Royce for the sake of a valve,” they said.

So at this point Jack took over. He dismantled the cistern, not easy, but the helpful person at Villeroy and Bosch had instructed us over the phone what to do and what to look for once we were inside. Turned out to be filthy inside, not been opened, until the BAD plumber looked inside, for 13 years. Jack took it apart gave it all a good soak and scrub with a toothbrush, went to Southport for a new valve, problem solved….

The up was because it is school holidays our teacher son and his lovely wife came to stay for 5 days. As we only have a one room granny flat they slept, cosy and snug in Matilda. We had a lovely family time together.

This week the schools go back so finding accommodation should be more peaceful. Another bonus.

Yesterday a storm cell came through. Temperatures dropped, wind howled like a banshee and it poured with rain, not a good day to be on the road. Today the sun is out and every thing is sparkling, so excuse me now, must have breakfast, throw the toothbrush and last few things in the van. Planning a brief stop at the farmers market to pick up fresh fruit and vegs. Then it is on the road again heading north, with Slim Dusty serenading us…

Will be blogging in when and where I can.
