Lake Hawea reflections

Lake Hawea reflections, originally uploaded by gypsy woman1.

The scenery has changed dramatically. We are now driving on the east side of the Southern Alps and the run off from heavy annual rainfall has created a watery wonderland, a fisherman’s paradise. We are blessed with perfect weather and as we came down the mountains and turned a corner to be confronted with the azure blue of the lake and the rippling reflections it just took our breath away.

Lake Hawea

Lake Hawea or is it Lake Wanaka???

We were so overwhelmed with the unfolding scenery as we drove along the road as it wound along the edge of the Lake. Suddenly another lake appeared on the left. More photos and even more photos…

It was nearly another 3 weeks before we arrived back home to Australia and could download them from our 4gb memory cards and look at them. That was the downside of not having our computer with us. Oh dear we hadn’t made many notes. 100’s of pics. They did have the date imprinted in them and I had kept a basic journal so up to now had been ok. But his time all those lake photos…

I have made a mental note to be more organised in the future.

Has any one else out there had this problem?

A welcoming hand from Wanaka

This is definitely Lake Wanaka. We stopped for the night in the Township of Wanaka and this sculpture of a welcoming hand was in the lakeside park across the road from the Wanaka Hotel. It was a lovely old style hotel. It had been the first tourist hotel built here when the roads were sealed and the tourists and visitors found this charming location in the 1960’s. The comfy room, with a tv that worked was only $60. Good value.
