We are now leaving the West Coast. The Fiordland National Park World heritage area blocks the way further south. The only road east is the Haast Pass that follows the valleys through the Southern Alps. This road twists and turns, the majestic mountains rising on all sides. Every turn is a vista of natures splendour.
The West Coast has been a dream fulfilled. Photos cannot capture the awesomeness of this area.
The east side of the Alps is a different type of forest. Tall Totaras, Coprosma understory and not so much moss.
We now are heading toward the Lake Wanaka and Hawea district…
