Southern Alps and Lake Matheson in the dawn light

Lake Matheson , originally uploaded by gypsy woman1.

I was in a deep sleep when I heard Jack say, “I’m going to watch the dawn”. I opened one eye, it was jet black outside. I grunted and went back to sleep.

It was 7-30am when I woke. Sunrise had been approx 6-30am so I expected Jack to be back any time soon…

By 9-30am I’d showered, had breakfast, packed our bags and was getting worried. Where could Jack be???? The track around the Lake was rough and uneven, I had visions of Jack tripping. Surely he couldn’t get lost. What time did he leave?

I was just about to press the panic button when I saw the car turn into the car park. What a relief…

Jack told me he had arrived at the lake at 5-30am and as it was still very dark had waited in the car for about half an hour before setting off around the Lake using a small torch to see the track. Reflection Island was recommended as the best place for photos and it was an hours walk around to the far side of the lake. Then it was such a beautiful morning he just kept walking.

Jack amazes me. At 80 years old he just keeps going and going…

The photos Jack brought back were amazing too…
