Red Dog statue Dampier

red dog statue Dampier, originally uploaded by gypsy woman1.

The Red Dog was a legend in the Pilbara region in the 1970’s, and he was loved by almost every one. A movie was made of his life in this wild and rugged region of West Australia. One of the last wilderness areas of Australia.Red dust, huge red boulders and a fortune in minerals.

We were there in August 2010 and heard that a movie was being made in the area. So when we saw it was now showing at the local Cairns cinema we had to see it. It brought back memories of our trip. The vast open red plains covered in spinifex and the amazing piles of boulders like an immense slag heap stretching forever to the azure blue skies. The film captures this landscape.

It was also a very sad movie and I cried.
