Cooking up a storm

Cooking up a storm, originally uploaded by gypsy woman1.

After an expensive few days at Tom Price and the tour through Karijini we are now going to camp at some of the free rest areas along the road to help balance the budget. They are basic with just a compost loo, but the best part of these sites is that camp fires are allowed, and now we have a camp oven I feel like a really seasoned camper…

Over the next week we stop at 3 different free camps. All are on rivers but all the rivers are dry stone beds during this time of the year. Trapped high up in the gums you can see all the debris that was washed down during the summer wet season, in full flood these rivers would be an awesome sight.

Notice in the top picture that Jack makes a separate area to put hot embers for me to use the camp oven on. Here I am cooking a pork, tomatoes, kumera and vegetable hot-pot. I have even mastered the damper…

  2. That hot pot looks great- as does the scenery…

That hot-pot sure looks’s making my mouth water; I might copy it, but not on a camp fire unfortunately. Also the damper is looking delicious this time too.
