Alpaca visit…

Cute and cuddly baby alpacaHow cute is this little fellow?

We went with Barry and Gretel to research the next bus trip Barry is planning for the garden club. Barry had located the Humminghills Alpaca farm in the Tweed Valley. Sue and Dennis are passionate about their boys and girls and gave us a very interesting tour of the farm. They have a specially constructed table that the Alpacas are strapped to, then tipped off their feet  to be shorn. They card the soft, luxurious fleece on a machine that is one of only seven in Australia. Then Dennis spins the fleece and Sue, with help from the local knitting and weaving club, knits the beautiful garments they have for sale in the small shop.

With dedication, passion and love in five years they have built a thriving cottage industry. I’m sure the garden club members will enjoy their trip here.
